The morning hunt was slow. I was positioned on top of a ridge where the owner, Joe Robison, had taken several big buck pics with his trail cam. Only the invisible deer were moving in the area. Joe picked us up at 10:00am and took us back to the lodge for a home cooked lunch.
The evening sit looked to be more promising. My cameraman, Kale Biggs, and I found ourselves in the same tree with hopes of catching Mr. 12-pointer with his guard down. It wasn't long before two does wondered in. I was just about to tag one when I heard something in the woods coming our way. It was a wide 4-point, not what I wanted. After watching the buck and does feed below me for about an hour Kale catches a glimpse of a good buck trailing a doe about 100 yards down the fence line. I let out several grunts but the buck seemed to have other things on his mind and chased the doe into the timber to never be seen again.
All in all, it was an exciting hunt. Saw a nice buck, good home cooked meals, and a couple that wanted to make sure my stay was pleasant. I made sure to mark a date for next season.
Thanks Joe and Judy Robison.
